About MeAs an Art and History double major at Elmira College, I have developed an immense appreciation for applying new ideas to an old world. As a result, I have cultivated an artistic style in which I take things that are not conventionally considered beautiful -- mysterious, odd, imperfect people and places -- and make them lovely again. My subjects are young and old, human and inanimate, but all of them have been marked by the passing of the years. Through my photographs, I hope to show the world that these blemished things are sometimes the most stunning.
Vivian MaierVivian Maier was a photographer who captured various aspects of New York City street life from the 1950s-1990s. As a matter of fact, her work did not gain recognition until after her death. Her photos came up for sale at a thrift auction in 2007, after spending years as negatives in a storage unit. The subjects of her photos often seemed to peer into the camera with expressions of shock or suspicion, as if they were mystified by her presence. Her photos also have a stunning range; some capture the anonymity of bustling city life -- others pay tribute to the individuality of the people who form the crowd. Vivian Maier’s ability to make modern viewers feel like a fly on the wall of 20th century metropolitan America has been an incredible source of inspiration for me.
